Community Input Needed for Railroad Underpass Study — March 5

Plans to convert a railroad crossing into an underpass at East Sunrise Boulevard and North Flagler Drive in Fort Lauderdale will be discussed at a meeting on Thursday, March 5.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Park Social Center. Residents can also attend online. See QR code on flyer below to register.

Your voice is essential as we explore ways to enhance connectivity and support long‑term community growth. The proposed effort will examine the feasibility of constructing five roadway–railroad underpasses with the goal of:

  • Improving mobility and accessibility

  • Increasing travel options and modal choice

  • Creating new and active transportation connections

  • Identifying opportunities for infrastructure hardening

  • Preparing the region for future growth and economic development
This workshop provides the opportunity to review the study’s purpose, ask questions, and share your feedback on potential solutions. Neighbor Support Night — Feb. 12

The city of Fort Lauderdale invites you to Neighbor Support Night, a community‑wide celebration dedicated to bringing residents together to strengthen connections, elevate civic pride, and enjoy a fun, family‑friendly evening. The block-style party will be held Feb. 12 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the City Hall parking garage.

Event highlights:

  • Learn about recycling, sustainability, and employee benefits;
  • Meet City officials and Community Builders;
  • Learn how to apply for City jobs and explore part‑time, temporary, and volunteer opportunities;

In Memory of Sally O’Loughlin

Longtime Sunrise Intracoastal resident Sally O’ Loughlin passed away Dec. 22 surrounded by family.

A loving wife, mother, businesswoman and community volunteer, she will be missed for the wonderful person, friend and neighbor she was to so many.

Sewer Work on Middle River Drive starts Jan. 5

The city of Fort Lauderdale will begin work on sewer improvements along Middle River Drive outside of Sunrise Intracoastal starting Jan. 5 and continuing through May 2026. A single southbound land will be closed during the work south of Sunrise Boulevard.

Improvements will also be made during that time along NE 9th Place and NE 20th Avenue in Victoria Park, causing road closure and detours.

Office of Attorney General Responds to Questions about the Live Local Act — Nov. 13

In response to a proposed large-scale development at the Galleria Mall, the city of Fort Lauderdale recently requested the legal advice of the state Office of the Attorney General regarding the Live Local Act. The Live Local Act is a new state law that restricts local control over a development’s approval process if developers meet certain legal requirements and set aside units for workforce housing.

Galleria Town Hall — Online Viewing and Parking Options — Oct. 28

Can’t attend Tuesday’s town hall meeting about proposed development at the Galleria Mall? The meeting will be live streamed on the city’s cable access channel as well as the city of Fort Lauderdale’s YouTube page.

For those attending in person but concerned about parking, there will be free valet at the Coral Ridge Yacht Club and there will also be overflow parking at George English Park with shuttle service to the yacht club beginning at 5 p.m.
