City Charter Changes Up for Vote Nov. 3
Residents will have a chance to vote on several City of Fort Lauderdale charter ballot initiatives on Nov. 3. Proposed changes include:
- Increasing the amount of time a city candidate is required to be a resident, from six to 12 months;
- Requiring the unanimous vote of the city commission to sell, transfer or lease for more than one year any land zoned as parks;
- Creating new charter positions of Police Chief and Fire Chief to report to the commission;
- Changing the rules for the sale of city property to public bodies, sale of real property to private parties, and leases;
- Removing the requirement to publish advanced notice of public meetings in two newspapers.
